If you are a new investor like myself or are investing with a small amount of money then you may find my performance calculator a helpful tool.  This tool forces you to think about the target price at which you would like to sell as well and the transaction fees that your broker charges for buying and selling.  I have benefited from this by not making impulse buys and recognizing my target price to get the desired return.

Here's how it works:

  • Enter the ticker symbol in the first column
  • Enter the price at which you are able to buy the security in the 2nd column
  • Enter the price at which you would like to sell (target sell price) in the 3rd column
  • Enter the number of shares you wish to purchase in the 6th column
  • Enter the total transaction fees that you expect to incur in the 8th column
You may make changes to any text in blue.

Now you will able able to see the expected change in value and the profit or loss for the scenario that you just entered.  Make changes, play with the numbers and good luck in your investments.

They can install the components by installing Microsoft Office 2000 or, if their company has an Office 2000 site license, by downloading the Office Web Components from their corporate intranet.
